How is information processed when I use Facebook Assistant on Facebook View?

When you use Facebook Assistant on your device, we process voice recordings and transcripts of your voice interactions, as well as data related to your voice interactions, such as the hardware version of your glasses and the length of the audio related to your interaction to respond to your requests.

Voice interactions are things you say to Facebook Assistant, including if you mistakenly activate Facebook Assistant, as well as any background sound that happens when you use Facebook Assistant.

Based on your preferences, we also store and process information about your voice interactions to help improve Facebook Assistant. You can also access and delete stored information in your Settings or in Your Facebook Information.

"Hey Facebook" is turning on by mistake with Ray-Ban Stories

Facebook Assistant may activate when it detects something that sounds similar to “Hey Facebook.” The mic will also activate if you accidentally press and hold the touchpad on your frames. You’ll see a notification LED and hear a wake sound play when Facebook Assistant is activated. How does storage of voice interactions work with Facebook View?

When voice storage is enabled, transcripts and related data about your voice interactions, such as the hardware version of your glasses and the length of the audio related to your interaction, are processed using machine learning and trained reviewers. Storing your voice interactions will help Assistant better understand and fulfill requests, as well as respond to a wide range of speech patterns and phrases. For example, people that speak a regional dialect and opt in to storage of voice interactions will help Assistant better understand and more accurately respond to requests from people that speak that regional dialect.

Trained reviewers are useful in evaluating how well Facebook Assistant responds to your voice command. For example, reviewers can evaluate if Ray-Ban Stories actually took a photo, and help improve Facebook Assistant to respond more accurately over time.

When voice storage is enabled, Facebook will store voice interactions even if you unintentionally trigger Assistant. If our systems detect that you didn’t intend to trigger Facebook Assistant through any activation method, Facebook will label these interactions as “false wakes” or misactivations, and delete them within 90 days of detection. Voice recordings, stored transcripts and data related to voice interactions are otherwise kept for 1 year.

You can hear, view and delete stored voice recordings and transcripts in your Activity Log and download information in the Download Your Information section of Your Facebook Information.

There are two storage settings, one for audio recordings and one for transcripts and related data. When voice storage is turned off, we won’t keep your voice voice interactions, which means you won't be able to hear, view or delete this information. We also won’t use your voice interactions to improve our voice services. Any voice interactions that occurred before you turned off storage will still be stored for one year, unless you delete them sooner. Learn how to change your voice assistant settings.

Keep in mind, if you have Store Transcripts turned off you won’t be able to store voice recordings.
